Zhimin Qian, once dubbed the “Goddess of Wealth,” received eleven years and eight months in prison for her role in a multi-billion-pound Bitcoin Ponzi scheme that devastated over 128,000 victims in China. Qian had evaded authorities for years, first fleeing China and eventually establishing a hidden life in London, spending lavishly on designer goods. Her trail went cold in 2018, but a dormant Bitcoin wallet reactivated in February of this year allowed detectives to track her across Scotland and ultimately to an Airbnb in suburban York where she was arrested.
