On April 27, 2023, a quick-thinking citizen saved an elderly woman from losing $40,000 in a Bitcoin scam in White Settlement, Texas. Myndi Jordan noticed the woman depositing large sums into a Bitcoin ATM at a Chevron gas station, while being misled by a scammer posing as a Chase Bank representative. Recognizing the signs of fraud, Jordan called 911. Sgt. James Stewart from the White Settlement Police Department responded swiftly, stopping the woman from depositing the remaining money. The scammer had arranged ride-shares for the woman to withdraw $40,000 and deposit it into the Bitcoin ATM.
